Design Collective Cincinnati

With the sporting world’s eyes on them, FC Cincinnati built a stand-out apparel program to support their new world-class district. The program includes performance knit polo shirts and t-shirts, Ultimate Cargo pants and layering pieces.

dots operates as a collective instead of the feast-or-famine model that often plagues freelance designers. I spoke with the three immigrant women behind the operation.

Learin McHugh

Learin McHugh is a recent graduate from Ohio State and joined Design Collective after multiple internships working on Workplace, Hospitality and Multi-family projects. She finds the most rewarding aspect of being a designer is seeing conceptual ideas come to life in the final product. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new local restaurants and shops in Columbus. She also enjoys playing any board or card game with friends and spending lazy days binge watching new shows.

RIOS was hired as the master plan architect for this world-class mixed-use district north of TQL Stadium, bringing a hotel, offices, apartments, retail, and entertainment venues to the heart of Cincinnati’s West End. The district will celebrate and expand upon the distinct heritage of Over-the-Rhine while embracing the city’s diversity.

The firm was looking for a way to reach clients in different cities without the expense of opening an office in each location. The partnership with One Global Design was an ideal solution.

Cathleen Gleason

Originally pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Cathleen Gleason stumbled upon her true calling, Interior Design. She brings a unique blend of sustainability and analytical thinking to her projects. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and 14 year old dog, Ulis, or at the local breweries around town.

For its new stadium, FC Cincinnati needed stand-out uniforms that supported a variety of work environments from high-end luxury suites to general admission bleachers. The result is a uniform program that is as functional as it is fashionable.

As a platform for civic engagement, Valor & Virtue Productions introduced the city of Cincinnati to a whole new set of business opportunities at “FASHION AT THE FOUNTAIN”. The event was unlike any fashion presentation that the city and tri-state area had ever experienced. The event was a proactive gateway to empower disenfranchised communities within Cincinnati.

Sydney Crawford

The Cincinnati Art Museum partnered with Design Collective to develop an award-winning uniform program for their stadium and sports-themed facility. The program includes apparel for food and beverage, customer service, operations hosts, and security personnel who serve the soccer fan base in a variety of work environments, from premium spaces and suites to general admission bleachers.

The program incorporates performance fabrics such as snag-resistant micropique knit, mechanical stretch, and moisture wicking technologies. This allows the team to wear apparel that supports their WELL goals while allowing them to easily distinguish between residential and commercial teams.

Crawford’s Venus in Pisces may cause her to feel that she has a “natural instinct to please.” She also has a conjunction with Saturn, which could make her a naturally cautious person with a tendency to overstate and over-promise. This may lead her to impose unrealistic expectations on her partners. The combination of these two factors can make her a difficult person to deal with.

Winding Lane recently moved into their beautiful new design studio in Hyde Park. The studio, which is easily recognizable by its bright pink door, was built within a renovated home. This allows them to work with homeowners who want to keep their homes’ character while modernizing it.
